You have questions and we have answers!

  • What are the requirements to participate?
    All players must be members of the PRPA to participate. The cost is $25 per year. PRPA MEMBERSHIP: HERE.
  • What categories are available?
    The tournament will have the following categories 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 + Depending on the tournament, we will most likely have categories for players who are 50 years old or older. Their age as of December 31, 2024 will be taken into account. For example, if you are 49 years old and turn 50 on December 3, 2024, for the purposes of the tournament you are 50 years old. You will be able to play in your DUPR category or higher. If you do not agree with your DUPR classification, please contact Tournament Management and we will accommodate you in the category that corresponds to you.
  • What is the return policy?
    Cancellations notified before July 31, 2024 will be refunded, with a deduction of $25 per player. Cancellations notified before August 31, 2024 will be refunded, with a deduction of $50 per player. After August 31st, refunds will not be issued. This event will be held outdoors. If weather prevents us from holding the tournament, refunds will not be issued. It will be rescheduled for another date.
  • DUPR
    All games will be included in DUPR. For this reason, ALL players MUST have a free account at DUPR. Creating an account at DUPR is free. Create your account today: HERE
  • What is the cost of the tournament?
    $75 for the first event, $25 for each additional event.
  • Shirts/Fundraisers for the Super Seniors Association?
    The tournament is sponsored by the Puerto Rican Pickleball Association (APPR). Part of the money raised will go towards developing the sport for players of these ages and towards creating an organization that supports the development of pickleball among Super Seniors. All players who register before August 15th will receive the tournament shirt in the requested size. After that date, it will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis or in the size that is available. Players will also receive a goody bag with products from our sponsors.
  • Date and location of the event?
    The Puerto Rico Pickleball Open – Senior Edition will take place on September 27, 28 and 29, 2024 at the La Academia – Deporte para Todos facilities on the municipal courts of Caguas.
  • What categories are available in the Senior Edition?
    The tournament is structured taking into account the age of the players (the "Age Group") and their level according to DUPR. The age groups are: 40 to 49 50 to 59 60 to 69 70 to 79 80+ Within each age group there are the following categories: 2.5 3.0 3.5 4.0 4.5 + You may play in your age group or in a younger age group. You may not play in an age group older than yours. For example, if you are 55 years old, you may play in the 40-49 age group or the 50-59 age group. Your age as of December 31, 2024 will be considered. For example, if you are 49 years old and turn 50 on December 3, 2024, you will be 50 years old for tournament purposes. You may play in your DUPR age group or higher. If you do not agree with your DUPR age group, please contact Tournament Management and we will accommodate you in the appropriate age group.
  • Is it true that you are going to broadcast the final?
    Yes. Some tournament finals will be streamed live on the tournament website (Puertoricopickleballopen.com), on our YouTube channel, and on other platforms that we will announce soon.
  • Will there be instant replay in the tournament?
    Some courts will be selected so that video cameras can capture whether a ball has bounced inside or outside the playing area. During semi-finals and finals on those courts, players can request that the referee consult the recording to determine whether the opposing team called the ball correctly.
  • What ball are they going to use?
    We will be using the Selkirk PRO S1. It is a very heat resistant ball and has been well received in the pickleball community.
  • It's my first tournament: what category do I enter?
    It depends on your level of play, but if you are just starting out in this sport we recommend that you sign up for category 2.5.
  • What is the calendar of events?
    This schedule is subject to change. Any changes will be notified to players in a timely manner. Friday, September 27 – Female and Male Singles Saturday, September 28: Women's doubles at 8:00 a.m. and men's doubles at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29 – Mixed Doubles at 8:00 a.m.
  • What is the tournament format?
    The tournament will be in a round robin format with 11 players winning by 2. The semi-finals and finals will be single elimination with 15 players winning by 2.
